West Island School (WIS) was opened in 1991 in the Old Military Hospital in Mid-Levels, opposite to Island School. At that time, the school had just 60 students and four members of staff. In 1994, the school moved to Pok Fu Lam and was officially inaugurated by Chris Patten, the Governor of Hong Kong. Today, WIS has expanded to a school which caters for 1,250 students.
